Insurance Denied My Claim Even Though I Have Full Coverage

I Have Full Insurance But My Insurance Company Denied My Claim

Posted January 29, 2015

The insurance system is a wonderful thing. It allows you the peace of mind to know that if something bad happens, you are covered financially.  Whether it is damage to your home, your vehicle, or even your body, if you have insurance you can know that someone has your back. But what happens when they don’t?

Valid Denials

Sometimes, claims get denied by the insurance company, and they can be denied for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons are valid. For instance, sometimes your policy does not cover the damage that you have entered a claim for. If you only have liability coverage on your car and you are involved in an accident that is your fault, the damage to your vehicle is your responsibility.

Other times, claims get denied that should be paid. If you feel like this is happening to you, here are some things that you should know.

Typos

Believe it or not, sometimes a claim can be denied by something as simple as a typo. The sheer volume of claims that some of the larger insurance companies process means that mistakes will happen from time to time.  A simple misspelling of the name of the insured, or a claim number that is one digit off can cause a claim to be automatically rejected in the system. This can easily be cleared up by simply following up with your claims agent and getting the proper information in the system.

Invalid Denial

Sometimes the reasons given for the denial can be incorrect or invalid. For example, some insurance companies will try to deny the claim of a driver for a variety of reasons. However, if you have full or comprehensive coverage on your vehicle, then you should be covered even though you are found to be at fault.
